Tips to Keep Your Immune System in High Gear,
La Vie style - Part 1

If you have been drinking one bottle of La Vie probiotic beverages a day, whether it's a Beet Kvass based drink, Coconut Kefir based drink, yogurt or cultured broth, you are doing fantastic in supporting your immune system and you understand that it's a very important role in keeping the virus at bay. Imagine the immune system is a wall you build around yourself to keep the virus away.

I believe that diet is one important component for immune support but lifestyle plays a big part too. Have you taken a picture while you were on vacation? Have you noticed that your face is different compared to when you were under stress? I don't believe in anti-aging because it is a part of our life cycle that we age...but you can slow down the aging process with a good lifestyle that includes a healthy diet. Basically we should honor our body (it's the only one we have) and be kind to ourselves.

I've gathered information from various sources for you all so that you can get the full spectrum of information. I personalized it a bit for you as regular farmers market shoppers and food based vitamin people. I don't believe much in supplements but I don't doubt that they work for some people who don't have easy access to healthy organic options.

Kudos to those of you who have been going to the farmers markets! It is a great place to get all of these ingredients, and because of the short distance between the food source to you they are full of vitamins and minerals when they are fresh. The fruits, vegetables, meat and fish haven’t been sitting in warehouses before they get to your hands and they are safer with no sharing of shopping carts and in an open-air market with lots of ventilation. If you are reluctant to come to the markets, a lot of vendors (including La Vie) now offer delivery service.

Here are foods that support a strong immune system

(I select only fruits and vegetables that are in season and available at the farmers market). My recommendation isn’t necessarily all plant based but rather a wide range of foods. Again, I recommend these sources from farmers market because of the quality of the ingredients :

  • Carrots, kale, sweet potatoes, spinach, broccoli, squash for beta carotene. Beta carotene gets converted into Vitamin A which is critical for the immune system.

  • Oranges, strawberries, grapefruits, kiwi, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, red and green peppers, and broccoli for Vitamin C. Higher level of Vit C (at least 200 milligrams) may slightly reduce the duration of cold symptoms. Have you guys tried Oro Blanco grapefruits? OMG! They are sweet and amazing. My family has it every morning mixed with Beet Kvass. Sweet and sour flavor. Yum Yum!!!

  • Medicinal mushrooms for Vitamin D and Minerals. Think about it - mushroom season is in the winter, they store so much sunshine while they can and sprout in the winter. My recommendation is Rishi, Shitake, Cordyceps, Turkey Tails, Lions Main from Far Western Fungi. Boil and simmer for 4 hours with either goji berries or red dates (available at the Mountain View and Saratoga farmers market). If you just boil the Rishi Mushrooms alone, its very bitter so I recommend goji berries or red dates as natural sweetener and balancer. Hey, this will be La Vie’s next products btw.

  • Salmons, eggs, nut milk and tofu are also good sources of Vitamin D. This virus likes to stick to  “dry” environments in your body so having lots of minerals helps fight the virus. Btw, La Vie Magic Mineral Broth contains shitake, kombu, leeks, carrots, yams, potatoes, parsley, ginger, celery and all other root vegetables that draw minerals from the earth.
  • Beans, chickpeas, lentils, nuts, seeds, oysters, crab, lobster, beef, pork chop, dark meat poultry and yogurt for Zinc.

  • Raw milk, eggs, yogurt, fish, poultry, tofu, kale, quinoa for Protein.

  • Whole grains, onions, garlic, leeks, asparagus, artichokes and beans for source of Prebiotics. Think about prebiotics as the foods for your probiotics (probiotics are living things which need food).

  • All La Vie probiotic drinks (all the red drinks contain apprx. 600 millions of probiotics per bottle and the coconut kefir based drinks contain about 360 billions of probiotics per bottle), sauerkraut, kimchi, tempeh, miso and sourdough bread for an excellent source of Probiotics.

  • Drink plenty of liquid, approximately half of your body weight in ounces. Whether it's your juices, fruits, vegetables, broths, soups or tea (If you drink coffee you should re-hydrate yourself by drinking twice as much other liquids than your coffee.) Try to have warm beverages that soothes your throat.

  • Elderberry substantially reduces upper respiratory symptoms and should be taken for the cold and flu. I also recommend Propolis for the same reason. (La Vie Allergy Shots have mega Vitamin C and Propolis as well). If you are at the Santa Cruz and Los Gatos farmers markets, Aptos Apiary has a great selections of tinctures for your health.

 Others (non farmers market items)

  • Quercetin and Epigallocatechin-gallate (EGCG found in green tea)

  • Curcumin (The color that makes turmeric yellow) has been found to inhibit NF-kB a potent activator of inflammation in sepsis. Curcumin was also found to inhibit binding of LPS and suppress the LPS-induced inflammatory response and damage seen in sepsis, while improving survival, in a mouse model of sepsis. (Try our La Vie Turmeric Shot).

  • Quercetin is a plant pigment (flavonoid). It is found in many plants and foods, such as red wine, onions, green tea, apples, berries, ginkgo biloba, St. John's wort, American elder, and others. Buckwheat tea has a large amount of quercetin. People use quercetin as a medicine. (La Vie Brain On Shot contains Ginkgo Biloba)

  • Lomatium dissectum is a species of flowering plant in the carrot family known by the common name fernleaf biscuitroot. It is native to much of western North America, where it grows in varied habitat. It is found in the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range, Rocky Mountains, Klamath Mountains, eastern Transverse Ranges and the Sierra Nevada in California.

Did you know that consuming refined sugar affects your immune system within 30 minutes and lowers your immune system by 50%!!!

We definitely can’t afford this! If you crave sugar, grab one or two dates. Dates are the most alkalizing fruit on the planet.

Next week I’d like to share the lifestyle and life principles I chose to help me out of depression and into happiness. This has helped me to slow down the aging process, meet kind people, find the right partner and help me build a soulful company and life fulfillment!
